Criston enhances its IT & Security Management Suite with a Power Management Module to help enterprises go green.

Criston, a leading provider of IT & Security Management Solutions, has introduced a new Power Management module into its Criston Precision Management Suite. This module lets IT administrators control power consumption over pc’s & monitors by enforcing various power settings.

Lower energy consumption means reduced carbon emissions which are a major contributor to climate change. Bundled with Criston Management Suite, this new module enable businesses to participate with everyone in the fight against climate change by reducing IT equipment’s CO2 footprint, enhance corporate reputation and obviously save money by reducing electricity bills.

Criston Power Management - Green IT Module:

Inventory

- Power saving capabilities inventory
- Power scheme inventory
- Hardware inventory with power-oriented classification

Power settings configuration policies

- Create and enforce power policy scheme with various levels of settings
- Control settings that reduce power to individual components (turn off monitor, hard drive, after a define unused time)
- Schedule and activate Standby mode for a group of machines
- Schedule and activate Hibernation mode for a group of machines
- Shut down unused computer (i.e overnight) and schedule automatic restart (i.e 5 min before the next expected usage)
- Publish different power scheme that match different type of work (primary workstation, guest machine, server…)

Employee awareness: The ability to communicate with end-users

- Schedule and Broadcast "green" messages, reminders etc…
- Measure and publish effective usage time against overall power on time

The Carbon Trust recently revealed that office equipment is the fastest growing energy user in the business world, consuming 15% of the total electricity used in offices. This is expected to rise to 30% by 2020. The cost of running this equipment is around ÂŁ300million p.a. in the UK alone and around two-thirds of is attributed to computers (PCs and monitors).

At a financial level, IT energy costs can be cut by ÂŁ15 to ÂŁ50 per computer by implementing effective power saving features.

Criston Green IT module allows IT administrators to schedule & enforce pc’s and monitors power settings across the network from the Criston management console. The solution can also standby, hibernate or even shut down and reactivate PCs, according to usage.

“We’ve all seen it. PCs humming along in dimly lit offices after hours, power on but idle by their operators who either forgot to shut down or wanted to get back to work immediately the following day - too eager to wait for the system to boot” says RaphaĂ«l Chauvel – Criston CTO - “Criston Green IT module is the ideal solution to reduce useless consumption of energy and save money on electricity bills, all without affecting user productivity.”
